Clemson Football Practice Report

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Tigers will work twice on Wednesday. The Tigers worked for 20 practice periods in the morning and will work for 16 practice periods in the evening. It will be a long day as the team is not expected to come off the field this evening until 9:30 PM.

The day got off to a good start according to Head Coach Dabo Swinney. “This was a very good morning practice for a two-a-day,” said Swinney. “Coming off a scrimmage yesterday, they clocked in from the beginning and were ready to work. We had good leadership.

“I was impressed with the passing game. We worked on that a lot and both Kyle Parker and Tajh Boyd were sharp. I asked them what they had for breakfast because they need to keep eating the same thing. I thought they were outstanding. They both had good zip on the ball.”

Swinney also made some comments on what he saw off the film from Tuesday’s scrimmage. “After watching the tape, my comments are about the same. I thought it was a very good first scrimmage. There weren’t a lot of penalties, not a lot of silly mistakes. It was very good competition, especially when the ones went against the ones.

“We do need to be more in tune with the big picture. One by one each player needs to understand why they are doing their job on each play, and understand how their task contributes to the big picture.”

Swinney has been impressed with his offensive line. “That is a close group and they are getting better and better. They are working together. I have been impressed with what I have seen from Antoine McClain. He followed up a very good scrimmage with a good practice this morning. The most surprising player has been Phillip Price (offensive tackle). He is working hard to be a part of this offense.”

Swinney said the team would practice tonight and once on Thursday night and once on Friday morning before a Saturday scrimmage. Most of the team will go to Bamberg, SC on Friday to a visitation for Dennis Bowers, Da’Quan Bowers father, who passed away suddenly on Sunday. “Much of the team is close to Da’Quan and were close to his father. If you want to see a great example of a relationship between a father and a son, that is it.”

First-team All-American safety DeAndre McDaniel missed the practice as he recovers from a hip bruise. It is not serious and he is expected back this week. Running back Demont Buice was back at practice after missing Tuesday’s scrimmage while recovering from a concussion.
