Clemson Finishes Third at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, SC – Freshman Stephen Behr fired a five-under-par 65 in the final round to finish in fifth place individually and lead Clemson to a third-place team finish at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Augusta State won the team title with an 856 score. Clemson finished at 864, ACC rival NC State tied the Tigers at 864.

Behr had rounds of 71-74-65 in leading the Tigers. His 65 was the best by a Clemson golfer this year and his five under par, tied for the best score vs. par by a Clemson golfer this year. It was the best score by a Clemson freshman since the 2011 Furman Invitational when Thomas Bradshaw fired a 64 in the final round.

Behr had five birdies and no bogeys in shooting his 65. It was the low round among the 90 golfers in the field on Tuesday and one of just two scores under par.

Matt Atkins of host school USC-Aiken won the medalist honors with a 206, while Virginia’s Mac McLaughlin was second at 208.

Miller Capps, another freshman, was Clemson’s second best golfer on Tuesday and the second best for the 54-hole event. He fired a one over par 71 on Tuesday to finish with a 218 score, good enough for 17th place. It was the second top 20 in a week for Capps, who finished 13th as an individual at the Charleston Shootout, March 4-5.

Senior Crawford Reeves was steady over the 54 holes and finished in 19th place at 219. He had rounds of 72-73-74 and now has consecutive top 20 finishes. He was Clemson’s top golfer at the first tournament of the Spring in Puerto Rico where he shot a 213 total to finish 15th.

Freshman Cody Proveaux was Clemson’s top golfer for the first 36 holes, but slumped to a 79 in the final round. He still finished 27th. Thomas Bradshaw shot a 228 for the 54 holes and finished 56th.

Clemson will next see action March 24-26 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, SC.
