Clemson Finishes Fourth at Greenville Regional Preview

Clemson, S.C.—Sophomore Alice Hewson carded a final round 71 to lead Clemson to a sold fourth-place team finish out of 16 teams at the Greenville Regional Preview at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville. N.C.  Clemson finished with a 54-hole score of 917 on the par 72 course.

TCU won the event with an 895 score, 31 over par.   Augusta finished second at 913 and Kansas State was third at 914.  The Tigers were fourth at 917, two shots ahead of host school East Carolina, who had a 919 total.  The field included teams from the Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, ACC and SEC.

Hewson finished second individually with a 221 score over the three rounds played in two days.  The sophomore had rounds of 76-74-71.  Her one under par 71 on Tuesday was the top round of the day among the 92 golfers who competed on the difficult course.  The average score for the 92 players for the three days was 79.

Hewson had four birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday and she finished the event with nine birdies, tied for fourth in the field.  She was just one over par on the par four holes for the tournament, best in the field.  She finished just two shots off the pace set by Connie Jaffrey of Kansas State, who shot a 219 for the tournament.

Freshman Ana Paula Valdes had her first career top 10 with a 226 score over the 54 holes.  Her ninth place finish included symmetrical rounds of  77-72-77. Valdez had 35 pars among her 54 holes, sixth most in the field, and she played the par three holes even for the three rounds.

Marissa Messana finished with a 233 score and was just outside a top 25 finish. The junior was 26th overall with consistent rounds of 78-77-78.  Sydney Legacy slipped to an 82 in the final round, but still was a counter all three rounds and finished 43rd with a 237 score.   Senior McKenzie Talbert improved her score each day and finished with a 254 score.

Senior Jessica Hoang played as an individual and finished 53rd with a score 239 over the 54 holes, fifth among the 12 who competed as individuals in the tournament.

Clemson wraps up its fall schedule October 28-30 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC.
