Clemson Finishes 15th at 3M Augusta Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Playing without number-one player Miller Capps for the second straight day, Clemson finished 15th out of 15 teams at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Sunday with a 889 score. The tournament featured eight top 25 teams and was played at the par 72 Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.Capps played the first round of the tournament and shot a one-under par 71, helping the Tigers to a 284 team score. The Tigers were in fourth place after the first round and moved to a tie for first four holes into Saturday’s second round with an eight under par score. But Capps could not continue due to the flu. He was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon for an IV. He was not well enough to play on Sunday.A Clemson player had withdrawn due to illness or injury just four times in the last 30 years. Now it has happened in three of the last four rounds. Stephen Behr withdrew due to the flu in the final round of the Linger Longer Invitational on March 23.Clemson shot a 311 team score on Sunday without Capps in the lineup. Stephen Behr led the way with an even-par 72 and finished in 26th place individually with a 218 score for the 54 holes. Freshman Austin Langdale was Clemson’s second best player for the tournament with a 219 score and finished in a tie for 30th.Central Florida won the tournament with an 846 score, 18-under-par, one shot ahead of Texas and four shots ahead of Virginia Tech.Clemson returns to action April 19-20 at the Wolfpack Spring Open in Raleigh, N.C.Team Results at 3M Augusta InvitationalApril 5-6, 2014, Forest Hills Golf Club, Augusta, Ga1.
