Clemson Falls to Appalachian State 67-62 in Women’s Basketball

Clemson women’s basketball lost its first game of the 2004-05 season, 67-62 to Appalachian State of the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers went on a 10-2 run to end the game after trailing by three with less than four minutes to play. Appalachian improved to 1-1 with the win, while the Lady Tigers fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Reggie Maddox was Clemson’s only double-figure scorer for the second time in as many games this year. She had 11 points on 4-8 shooting. She also had five assists, three steals, and two blocks. Lauren Allen contributed nine points and nine rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.

The Lady Tigers shot 35.9 percent for the game and managed just one three-pointer and shot 60 percent from the foul line.

The Mountaineers were led by four players in double figures. Kiki Conyers had 14 points, while Jessica Jank and Danielle Edwards had 11, and Michelle Conklin had 10 points. The Mountaineers had a +3 rebounding edge over the Lady Tigers.

The Mountaineers had a 30-26 lead in the first half before the Lady Tigers narrowed the lead to just two at the break. In the second half, Appalachian State built a five-point lead at 55-50. The Lady Tigers responded with an 8-0 run to take a slim lead. Conyers’ jumper at the 1:55 mark of the final period gave the Mountaineers the lead for good.

The Lady Tigers travel to California this week for a West Coast road trip. Clemson plays at UCLA on Wednesday at 7:00 (PST) and San Diego on Friday at 7:00 (PST).
