Clemson Downs Georgia Southern 3-0 in Volleyball

Clemson improved to 15-9 on the season after a 3-0 sweep (30-25, 31-29, 30-23) of Georgia Southern on Tuesday. The Eagles fell to 14-7 overall with the loss.

Leslie Finn had 20 kills and hit .348 for the Tigers, while Brittany Ross chipped in 19 kills of her own. The Tigers hit .252 as a team. Leslie Mansfield had 18 digs to go along with a game-high three service aces, while Anna Vallinch had two aces and 16 digs.

Finn also had 12 digs in the match, meaning she has 16 double-doubles this season. Her 20 kills put her one shy of Alison Coday for fourth on the all-time list.

In game one, Finn and Ross accounted for 15 kills. The Tigers led by as much as nine at one point in the match. In game two, Ross and Finn had 16 kills combined to lead the Tigers. Clemson trailed 28-26 before scoring five of the last six points in the game. The third and final game saw Clemson score six straight after trailing 18-14. The Tigers battled back and forth with the Eagles before putting them away at the end.

The Tigers return to the court this weekend to play host to Miami and Florida State in a pair of crucial conference matches. The Tigers and Hurricanes are scheduled for 7:00 PM Friday, while Saturday’s match is set for 6:00 PM.
