Clemson Defeats Furman 3-2 In Volleyball Action

GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson volleyball team defeated Furman 3-2 on Tuesday night at Timmons Arena. With the win, the Tigers improve their record to 9-6, extend their win-streak to five matches, and are 30-0 all-time against the Paladins who have an 8-8 record. Clemson won the first two games 30-21 and 30-20, but Furman rallied to win games three and four, 30-26 and 30-28. The Tigers won the decisive game 15-13.

Four Clemson players tallied double figure kills, led by Ryane Beasley’s 17 kills. Lori Ashton added 13 kills, and Marija Zoric had 12 kills with seven blocks (one solo). Leslie Finn recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Jessi Betcher handed out 55 assists with 14 digs and eight kills. Carly Hill served up a match-high three service aces. As a team, the Tigers hit .250 for the match, with eight team blocks.

Furman was paced by Laura Bush’s 20 kills, 405 hitting percentage and four blocks. Carrie Rowley added 16 kills with 18 digs, and Amber Montague had 12 kills with three blocks (one solo). Abby Simon had 11 kills, and Michelle Cauldwell tallied 56 assists. As a team, the Paladins hit .209 with eight team blocks.

The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday as they travel to Virginia and Maryland. Friday night’s match against the Cavaliers is Clemson’s ACC opener.
