CLEMSON, SC–Courtney Foster scored two goals in leading Clemson to a 5-0 win over Appalachian State in a women’s exhibition soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.
Foster scored her two goals in the first 8:42 of the match. Two freshman, Jenny Smith and Fraser Gerth, both scored one goal each before halftime to give the Lady Tigers a 4-0 advantage.
Elizabeth Jobe converted on a penalty kick to give Clemson a 5-0 lead with 83:14 gone in the contest.
“I admired both teams for playing as hard as they did in the heat today,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “We will have to play in the heat next weekend so it’s good that we are getting acclimated to the heat. In the preseason, the team is meeting our expectations. We showed some good things today and I am happy in the progress we are making so far this preseason. We are glad to have these preseason exhibitions so we can play a lot of people and can have different looks in various situations. I am happy with our depth and the progress our freshmen are making.”
Clemson opens the 2005 season with a pair of home games next weekend. Clemson will play host to Tennessee-Chattanooga on Friday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Tigers will entertain Kennesaw State on Sunday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m.
