Clemson Concludes Action in Texas

CLEMSON, S.C. — Rebekah Smith produced one of the program’s top times in the 100 dash and the 4×800 relays excelled Saturday on the final day at the 90th Texas Relays. Clemson also saw Sabria Hadley record a second-place effort in the 200.

Smith, a freshman, tied the eighth-best time in Clemson history after clocking an 11.37 in the 100-meter invitational section. She finished fourth in the event. Hadley competed in both short sprints Saturday, taking second in the 200 (23.24) and fifth in the collegiate section of the 100 (11.53).

The day began with great showings from the 4×8 teams. The women’s group of Imani McGowan, Ersula Farrow, Lakeisha Warner and Grace Barnett produced a time of 8:41.68, taking second behind LSU. The men followed with a dramatic win, holding off Texas A&M at the line in 7:28.89. The group consisted of Oliver Lloyd, Mpho Makofane, Terrell Jackson and John Lewis.

The day ended with the 4×400 relays, and Clemson’s men turned in a solid effort in fifth place. The team of Cordell Lamb, Michael Cheeks, Jackson and Jeffrey Green finished with a time of 3:06.13, a season-best for the Tigers.

The Tigers return to action next week in Athens, Ga., for the Spec Towns Invitational.
