Clemson Baseball to Hold Simulated Series this Weekend

Feb. 14, 2002

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson baseball team will play three intrasquad games this weekend as it prepares for its home opener on Feb. 22. The team will play at 3:00 PM on Friday, 2:00 PM on Saturday and at 2:00 PM on Sunday. All games are open to the public.

Players will be divided into an Orange team and a Purple team. Shortstop Khalil Greene, pitcher Matt Henrie and pitcher/outfielder Jarrod Schmidt will lead the Orange while third baseman Jeff Baker, first baseman Michael Johsnon and pitcher Steve Reba lead the Purple. Game operations, including groundskeeping, public address and scoring, will run at Doug Kingsmore Stadium as the Tigers prepare to play their latest season opener since 1987.

Clemson moved up in two polls released this week and is now a consensus top-four team in all three major polls. Jack Leggett’s squad is ranked fourth by both the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches and Collegiate Baseball polls while remaining second in the latest Baseball America rankings.

First pitch for the 2002 Clemson baseball season is set for 3:00 PM on Friday, Feb. 22 against the Auburn Tigers.
