Clemson, SC – Coaches and administrators from various Clemson athletic teams will participate in the fourth annual “Shop With a Coach” event at the Wal-Mart of Central on Wednesday. The event, spearheaded once again by men’s basketball Head Coach Oliver Purnell, features Clemson athletic coaches shopping for Christmas gifts with underprivileged children from the local community.
Coaches and administrators will load a donated Champion bus at 6:15 PM and head to Clemson Community Care to pick up the children. From there, the group will make its way to Wal-Mart in Central, where gift cards will be provided to each child and his or her assigned coach. Wal-Mart will also provide food and drink as well as a gift-wrapping station. The bus will depart the store at approximately 8:30 PM.
Athletic staff members that will be taking part in Wednesday’s fun include: Trevor Adair (men’s soccer), Kyle Bunn (baseball), Jeff Davis (football), Tim Hall (track & field), Nancy Harris (women’s tennis), Leslie Hasselbach (swimming & diving), Jolene Hoover (volleyball), Chris Ip (swimming & diving), Chuck McCuen (men’s tennis), Mike Morrell (men’s basketball), Larry Penley (golf), Josh Postorino (men’s basketball), Tom Riginos (baseball), Richard Ruggieri (rowing), Frank Smith (men’s basketball), Todd Steelman (women’s basketball), and Hershey Strosberg (women’s soccer). In addition, Clemson University President James F. Barker is expected to participate in the event.
