Bowers Named to Hendricks Award Watch List

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson junior defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has been named to the preseason Watch List for the 2010 Ted Hendricks Award. The honor goes to the top defensive end in college football and is named after former Miami (FL) defensive end Ted Hendricks, who went on to a 15-year NFL career.

Bowers is joined on the list by ACC players Allen Bailey of Miami (FL) and Robert Quinn of North Carolina. Overall, 36 players were named to the list.

This is the third preseason watch list for Bowers. He has also been named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Award, which goes to he top defensive player in the nation, and to the Lombardi Award, which goes to the top lineman in college football.

Bowers is in his third season as a starter for the Tigers. He had 58 tackles last year, including 11 tackles for loss for the Clemson defense that ranked in the top 25 in the nation in total defensive, scoring defense and tackles for loss. He had an injury plagued sophomore year, but came on strong at the end of the year when he was healthy. He had a career high 11 tackles against Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship game.

Bowers has missed practice this week to be with him family in Bamberg, SC. His father died suddenly this past Sunday.
