Baker Named All-American By Baseball Weekly

May 31, 2001

ARLINGTON, VA – Clemson sophomore Jeff Baker has been selected as a second team All-American at third base by Baseball Weekly for the 2001 season. The All-American honor is the second for Baker this season and the third for the Tigers this year. He was named a first team Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American by the staff at Collegiate Baseball while teammate Steve Reba was named to the third team.

Baker, a first team All-ACC selection this year, has had a record-setting season from the plate after being named a first-team Freshman All-American as a designated hitter last year. He leads the ACC with 23 home runs this season and needs just one more to tie Clemson’s single-season record. He has 34 home runs through his first two seasons, the most of any Tiger after two years. Baker, who hails from Woodbridge, VA, has homered twice in a game five times this season and seven times in his career, both new school standards. He also ranks in the top seven in the ACC and leads the Tigers in RBIs (73), slugging percentage (.758), on base percentage (.474) and runs scored (65).
