Alvarez Finishes in Third Place at Bolivian National Open

Jan. 7, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Carlos Alvarez, current Clemson Men’s Tennis player, finished in third place in the Bolivian National Open Dec. 15th. Alvarez lost in the semifinals to Mauricio Doria who is currently ranked 755 ATP in a close match. In the playoff for the third and fourth place Alvarez defeated Jose Roberto Velasco 6-3, 7-6. Velasco was ranked as high as #7 in the world in the ITF junior rankings.

“This is a good showing for Carlos,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “He trained hard all fall and had this tournament in his sights. To finish in third place at such a big national tournament is a solid performance. He had a great win against Jose Velasco, a world class player who was highly ranked in world juniors. Carlos has a great opportunity this year to be highly ranked in the NCAA singles and doubles. We are very proud of Carlos and expect him to be a big contributor in his senior season.”
