#24 Tigers Win Series Finale Over Eagles 16-2 Sunday

Clemson, SC –

Twelve Tigers had a hit in Clemson’s 19-hit attack, as #24 Clemson defeated Boston College 16-2 in the series finale in front of 4,252 fans at Doug Kingsmore on Sunday afternoon. Clemson improved to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in ACC play. The Eagles, who won the series 2-1, fell to 8-8 overall and 2-4 in ACC play.

Graham Stoneburner (3-0) earned the win by pitching an impressive 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He also struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Tiger relievers Craig Gullickson, William Bond, and Clinton McKinney combined to allow just one run on three hits as well.

Eagle starter James MacDonald (2-2) suffered the loss, as he allowed seven runs on eight hits and one walk in 0.2 innings pitched.

The Tiger bats came alive with seven runs on eight hits in the first inning. Stan Widmann led off with a single to center, moved to third on Wilson Boyd’s single through the right side, and scored on a fielder’s choice to third by Doug Hogan. Ben Paulsen then hit a one-out single to third and Hogan moved to third on the throw. Jeff Schaus followed with a double to right to score Hogan. Kyle Parker then singled up the middle to score both Paulsen and Schaus. Mike Freeman doubled down the left-field line to put runners in scoring position. John Hinson followed with a two-run triple down the right-field line to score Parker and Freeman. Chris Epps drew a walk and Widmann followed with a sacrifice fly to left-center to score Hinson.

Boston College got on the scoreboard with one run in the fifth. Eric Campbell led off the frame with a double to left and scored on Michael Belfiore’s single up the middle.

Parker and Boyd highlighted Clemson’s nine-run charge in the sixth. Parker hit his fifth long ball of the year, a two-run shot to left-center. Boyd added two runs with a double to left.

The Eagles scored the final run in the eighth, as Mickey Wiswall singled through right side, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on a single to right-center by Marc Perdios.

The Eagles, who totaled six hits, were led by Belfiore and Perdios, who each had one hit and one RBI.

Boyd, who upped his hitting streak to 14 games, went 5-for-6 with two RBIs and Parker had two hits and four RBIs to highlight Clemson’s 19-hit attack. Eleven Tigers scored at least one run as well.

Clemson will return to action when it plays host to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 7:15 PM.
