CLEMSON, S.C. – Team Lindley won the final two scrimmages of the three-scrimmage series against Team Corbitt to capture the Clemson Super Regional title 2-1 from Nov. 9-13. All three scrimmages were slated for seven innings, but the last scrimmage went into extra innings and was decided in eight innings.
Team Corbitt won the first scrimmage 4-3 on Nathan Hall’s walkoff single on Nov. 9. Billy Barlow also tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of one-hit ball for Team Corbitt.
In the second scrimmage on Nov. 11, Team Lindley won 7-3, keyed by three-hit performances by Riley Bertram and Mac Starbuck and a strong relief outing from Willie Weiss, who pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
In the finale on Nov. 13, Team Lindley turned a scrimmage-ending double play with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to win 4-3. Starbuck led the way with two hits and three RBIs for Team Lindley.
Along with countless standout defensive plays in the series, Starbuck was 5-for-9 with four RBIs and a hit-by-pitch to lead the Tigers on offense. Also for Team Lindley, Benjamin Blackwell was 4-for-9 with three runs and two walks, while Bertram was 4-for-11 with four runs. Lleyton Lackey (3-for-8) and David Lewis (3-for-9) also had strong series for Team Lindley.
Cam Cannarella paced Team Corbitt in the series by going 3-for-9 with a double, two walks, a hit-by-pitch and four steals. Caden Grice added two hits, five walks and three steals for Team Corbitt.
The Tigers begin the spring practice season in January before hosting their season opener against Binghamton on Feb. 17.
