Purple Clinches Series With 10-Run Final Frame

CLEMSON, S.C. – Adam Hackenberg smacked a two-run, go-ahead single to put Purple ahead 3-2 in the seventh inning before Purple exploded for eight more runs in the frame, highlighted by Drew Donathan’s grand slam and Bryce Teodosio’s two-run homer, in Purple’s 11-2 win at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night. Purple took a 2-0 lead in the series, which features three seven-inning contests and marks the end of the fall practice season.

After Purple scored an unearned run in the second inning, Orange pulled even in the fourth inning on Kier Meredith’s sacrifice fly. Bo Majkowksi’s run-scoring single in the sixth inning gave Orange a 2-1 lead before Purple answered with 10 runs in the seventh inning.

Orange starter Sam Weatherly tossed 4.0 innings, allowing only one hit, no earned runs and no walks with three strikeouts. Nick Clayton started for Purple, allowing two hits and no runs with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Paul Labriola earned the win in relief for Purple in 2.0 innings pitched. Orange reliever Sheldon Reed suffered the loss.

The Tigers play their third of three Orange & Purple Scrimmages at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close the fall practice season. Admission is free.
