In an effort to continue to enhance the security of fans attending Clemson University Football games in Memorial Stadium, the Clemson University Police Department, the Clemson Athletic Department and IPTAY have announced updates from previous policies and have added six items to the list of items not allowed in the stadium. Those items include coolers, briefcases, luggage, computer bags, large chairs and camera bags.
The overall security policy, which was originally adopted after the September 11th attacks, already prohibited backpacks, tote bags, brown paper bags and other large carryall-type bags.
Items allowed in Memorial Stadium for the 2015 season, but subject to search are purses, diaper bags, medically necessary items, binocular cases and seat cushions.
All fans will be directed to screening areas at Memorial Stadium Gates 1, 5, 9, 11, 13, 16 and 20 where items will be searched by designated and easily recognized Memorial Stadium Event Staff. For the most efficient, effective and quickest entry into Memorial Stadium, officials recommend that fans arrive at least one and a half hours before kickoff.
Personal chair backs with arms, large pockets or those chair backs larger than 17 inches wide, will not be allowed into Memorial Stadium. Prohibited items will not be claim-checked at the Memorial Stadium gates and fans will be asked to return those items to their specific vehicles. However, Memorial Stadium Event Staff will continue to check individual umbrellas and strollers at the gates.
Clemson Athletics will continue to allow pass-outs for the 2015 season for Memorial Stadium, which means fans can leave and be readmitted to the stadium at designated entrances. However, those fans will have to go through the same level of security screening as they did upon originally entering the stadium.
State and local bomb-detection dogs and technicians will be on hand to check Memorial Stadium and cars parked near it, and only cars bearing IPTAY placards or the appropriate passes will be allowed access to roads in the vicinity of Memorial Stadium.
