#15 BYU Downs #27 Clemson Volleyball

SOUTH BEND, IN — #15 Brigham Young University defeated the 27th-ranked Clemson Tigers 3-0 (5-15, 7-15, 10-15) in the first round of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Invitational Friday afternoon at the Joyce Center.

Junior Jodi Steffes led the Tigers with eight kills, nine digs, and two block assists while sophomore setter Jessi Betcher tallied 21 assists and six kills. Clemson hit .167 on the day while BYU posted a .319 hitting percentage.

Sunny Tonga led BYU with 10 kills, five digs, and three block assists while Nina Puikkonen and Jackie Bundy added seven kills each. Karina Puikkonen tallied a game-high 31 assists with three service aces, three digs, and two block assists.

The Tigers play the Fairfield University Stags Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and then challenge #28 Notre Dame Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to conclude the Shamrock Invitational.
