#13 Clemson Opens Season Friday against SIUE in Hoosier Challenge Cup

Clemson Notes:

• Clemson was 14-5-4 overall and 7-1-2 in the ACC in 2016. The 7-1-2 finish earned the Tigers a share of the ACC Regular Season title. Clemson reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and ended the season ranked 12th in the nation.
• The Tigers return three starters from the 2016 squad, including senior midfielder Shannon Horgan, junior Sam Staab and sophomore Julie Mackin, each having recorded eight or more points on the season.
• Head Coach Eddie Radwanskiis entering his seventh season at the helm of the Clemson program. Radwanski was named ACC Coach of the year in 2016.
• The Tigers defeated Air Force 4-2 at home in their first exhibition match of the season. Freshman Mariana Speckmaier led the way with two goals, with Mackin and Patrice DiPasquale each adding one.
• Clemson fell short to No. 12 Duke for the final exhibition match of the season. Senior Jeni Erickson scored the lone goal for the Tigers, assisted by Speckmaier.
• Sophomore starting keeper Sandy MacIver is in Ireland with England’s U19 team for the UEFA U19 Euros. Sophomore Melanie Stiles and freshman Maddie Weber will play in goal in MacIver’s absence.

SIU Edwardsville Notes:

• SIU Edwardsville finished the 2016 season 10-8-5, winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and reached the NCAA Second Round for the first time in program history.
• Senior forward Caroline Hoefert returns for the Cougars after leading the team in scoring with five goals and six assists for 16 points a season ago.
• SIUE fell 1-0 to Evansville on Aug. 9 and defeated IUPUI 3-1 on Aug. 12, both in exhibition matches.

• This is the first meeting between Clemson and SIU Edwardsville in women’s soccer.

• Indiana fell 3-1 to Cincinnati in their only exhibition game on Aug. 11.
