Women’s Volleyball Downs Wake Forest In Five

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Clemson volleyball team, ranked 13th nationally, defeated Wake Forest 3-2 (10-15, 15-11, 6-15, 15-7, 15-11) Tuesday night to open the 1999 ACC season. The Tigers pushed their winning streak to 10 matches with the victory. Entering the match, the Tigers were riding a 27-game winning streak, which the Demon Deacons ended with a 15-10 win in the opening game.

Freshman Mallory Benson led the Tigers with a .417 hitting percentage (10 kills, no errors, 24 attempts), and freshman setter Jessi Betcher recorded 61 assists in the win. Senior Emily Gorla recorded a double-double, with 24 digs and 12 kills. Senior Alison Coday paced the team with 24 kills, while senior Cindy Stern added 18 kills for Clemson.

Clemson (10-0) will play at Duke Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Wake Forest drops to 10-3 with the loss.
