Chapel Hill, NC – Linda Buchholz posted a seventh-place finish in the pentathlon Thursday to open the Clemson women’s track & field scoring at the ACC Indoor Championships. The Lady Tigers are in eighth place in the team standings through two scored events at the Eddie Smith Field House.

Buchholz, who placed fourth in the pentathlon last year as a freshman, collected a total of 3,456 points. Kasey Hill of Boston College won the championship with 3,895. Buchholz edged Christina Smith of Maryland for seventh place Thursday.

The day started slowly for the native of Bad Segeberg, Germany in the 55m hurdles. She posted a time of 8.81 seconds, which was 12th out of 14 competitors. Buchholz regrouped quickly, however, as she cleared 5’6″ in the high jump which was best among all the competitors.

The third event was the shot put, where she posted a distance of 37’6.75″. She then had a long jump of 17’6″, which was a season best, then ran 2:45.35 in the 800m to finish the pentathlon. Liane Weber, defending league champion in the event, did not finish the five-event slate Thursday after a fall in the 55m dash.

Catheryne Porter also competed Thursday in the 20-pound weight throw. The senior from Charleston, SC had a mark of 50’7.5″ which was good enough for a 12th-place finish. Rochelle Kokayko, one of the team’s top throwers, did not compete due to injury.

The team returns to action Friday for a good portion of the meet, including the prelims for all running events. The first event of the day for the women will be the long jump at 12:00 noon.
