May 30, 2001

EUGENE, Ore. – The Clemson women’s track and field team opened competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. The Lady Tigers’ 4x100m relay team qualified for the finals of that event to be held on Friday.

Clemson’s 4x100m relay team of Shannon Murray, Michelle Burgher, Shekera Weston and Cydonie Mothersill qualified for the finals of the event with a time of 43.62, a school record and season-best mark. The Lady Tigers finished second in their heat, but advanced to Friday’s finals with the third-fastest qualifying time.

Jamine Moton, a junior from Glassboro, NJ, recorded a mark of 160′ in the discus. She failed to qualify for the finals of the event by less than six inches.

Shekera Weston, a senior from Fort Campbell, KY, qualified for the finals of the 200m with a time of 23.09. Cydonie Mothersill, the 2001 Indoor National Champion in the 200m dash, was disqualified for stepping on the lane line after winning her heat with a personal best of 22.47. The disqualification is under protest.

Mothersill will compete in the trials of the 100m dash on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Weston and Michelle Burgher are slated to compete in the semifinals of the 400m, beginning at 5:10 p.m. on Thursday. Clemson’s 4x400m relay team will also compete Thursday (6:45 p.m.) in the semifinals of that event.
