Women’s Track And Field Completes Competition At Clemson Relays

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track and field team concluded the second day of action at the Clemson Relays on Saturday with Renata Miyamoto highlighting the day’s action with a regional qualifying mark in the triple jump. She was one of four student-athletes to regionally qualify at the meet and one of two Lady Tigers to claim event titles on Saturday.

Miyamoto tied her personal best with a jump of 12.39m (40’7.75″) in the triple jump, while Jenny Barton set a personal best time while finishing first in the 5000m with a time of 17:47.79. Barton’s previous best was 18:08.88 posted at the Clemson Invitational during the 2005 season. Teammate Ashley Robinson placed second in the 5000m, running a time of 18:36.52, while Lauren Marriot’s time of 20:17.44 ranked her ninth in the event.

Miyamoto, Randi Hinton, Ope Sobanjo earned a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.61, bettering their season best of 47.19. With a time of 12.38, Hinton also finished second in the 100m. In the 100m hurdles, two Clemson athletes placed in the top five, led by Polly Hardy at number two with a time of 14.23. Miyamoto’s time of 14.41 was good enough for fifth in the event. Hill competed in the 400m hurdles for the Tigers with a time of 1:02.97, a season high for the sophomore from Palmetto, GA

In the 4x800m relay, the Clemson team of Patrice McMillan, Caroline Rash, Thea Dix bettered its time from last weekend’s competition and placed third with a mark of 9:29.14. The same team of Johnson, Dix, Rash and McMillan posted a time of 12:49.77 in the distance medley relay, good enough for a second-place finish.

In the field events, Krystal Woods bettered her season high in the discus throw with a mark of 46.26m (151’9″) to place third in the event. Della Clark earned two third-place finishes on Saturday, one in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.69m (156’5.5′) and a second in the shot put with a mark of 13.90m (45’7.25″). Porter’s mark of 41.39m (129’2.5″) placed her seventh in the hammer throw. Three Tigers competed in the high jump. Felicia Hawthorne had a mark of 1.55m (5’1″). Allison Bradshaw’s mark of 13.33m (43’9″) in the shot put placed her fourth in the event.

Next up for Clemson is the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, Apr. 1.
