Women’s Tennis To take on #4 Georgia Saturday in Athens

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 15th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will travel to Athens, GA for a clash of top-15 teams as they take on #4 Georgia. Clemson is 6-0 on the season, while Georgia comes in at 3-0 on the season. Live scoring will be available at GeorgiaDogs.com or by clicking here.

Both teams have also advanced to be among the final 16-team field in Madison, WI for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

Last season, then-#6 Georgia edged the 11th-ranked Tigers, 4-3, in Clemson to even the all-time series at 20-20, and hand Clemson its first loss of 2009. Clemson won the doubles point, and three of the singles matches went to three sets in the match-up. Ani Mijacika won at #1 singles and Estefania Balda won at #4 for the Tigers’ two singles points.

This season, sophomore Keri Wong, who has posted a 6-0 record, including her first win at #1 singles against Furman, has led Clemson. Clemson also features 9th-ranked Josipa Bek, who enters as the highest-ranked player in the match, as Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia holds down the #14 ranking.

Senior Ina Hadziselimovic has teamed with Wong in each of the first six matches at #1 doubles, and the pair has won all six times. Hadziselimovic has played well in singles so far as well, as the nation’s 113th-ranked player is 5-1 at the #3 position. Nelly Ciolkowski has also played well so far in 2010, posting a 6-0 mark in the spring season.

After the match with the Bulldogs, Clemson will take on Charlotte at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center on Feb. 9 at 2:30 pm. That match will be Clemson’s final tune-up before heading to Madison, WI for the National Team Indoor Championshps.
