Women’s Tennis To Begin Play At ITA Southeast Regional

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team will begin competition at the 2005 ITA Southeast Regional on Thursday, Oct. 13. Five singles players and two doubles teams will participate for the Tigers in the four-day event. The tandem of Daniela Alvarez and Federica van Adrichem earned the fifth seed in the doubles draw and a first-round bye after posting a 6-1 overall record in the team’s first two fall tournaments. Their first match will be on Friday.

Kathi Gerber will face Davidson’s Michele Fanney on Thursday at 8:00 AM in the tournament’s qualifying round. The second Clemson doubles team will also compete in the first day’s action as Maria Brito and Carol Salge meet Ana Jerman and Christian Tara of Wake Forest on Thursday evening.

In the main draw of the singles bracket, four Tigers will begin play on Friday. Salge, who boasts a 5-2 record for the fall, will face Sandie Knight of East Tennessee State at 8:30 AM, while Brito, who is undefeated at 7-0, and Charlotte’s Ofra Friedman will take to the court at 10:30 AM. Alvarez’s match against Bryce Marable of Tennessee will start at 1:00 PM, and van Adrichem will meet a player from the qualifying round on Friday at 2:00.
