Women’s Tennis Sweeps Alabama, 8-0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Clemson’s Women’s Tennis team was victorious over the University of Alabama Sunday afternoon, giving them their third win of the season and a record of 3-6. The Crimson Tide fall to 3-5.

Clemson freshman Carmina Giraldo defeated Alabama’s Jill Breslin in 3 sets by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 at number one singles. In the two spot, senior Kate-Maree Mair of Clemson shut down Dominique Glinzler, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Tiger Catherine Galvin fought off the efforts of Selia Mathew, winning 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 at three singles.

Clemson’s Cecilia Hincapie was victorious over Weyli Chang of Alabama 6-2, 6-3. Clemson sophomores Cinny Clausen and Christina Oldock finished the singles sweep by defeating their opponents Jenny Ketchum and Kathleen Mele at five and six singles, respectively.

In doubles action, the Tiger’s freshman-senior duo of Carmina Giraldo and Kate-Maree Mair cruised to victory over Glinzler and Chang, 8-1.

At two doubles, Catherine Galvin teamed up with Christina Oldock to defeat Alabama’s Becca Baum and Ketchum by a score of 8-6, completing the Tiger’s sweep of the Crimson Tide.

Clemson (3-6) will take on Furman this Thursday, March 11 at 2:30 pm, in Clemson.
