Women’s Tennis Set For Final Home Weekend of Play

April 3, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will wrap up its 2009 home schedule this weekend as the Tigers play host to Maryland and Boston College at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson (14-5, 6-1 ACC) will face the Terrapins (4-13, 1-6 ACC) on Saturday at 11:00 am before taking on the Eagles (4-13, 1-6 ACC) at 11:00 am on Sunday.

The Tigers will honor seniors Alexandra Luc and Federica van Adrichem prior to Sunday’s match. Clemson will look to extend its winning streak to eight straight, dating back to Mar. 15. Fans can follow the action on the Internet by accessing the livestats link on www.clemsontigers.com.

Ani Mijacika leads the Tiger lineup as the nation’s top player. The junior standout boasts a 26-5 overall record for the fall and spring seasons combined and has won 17 matches over ranked opponents. Her two losses in dual matches came when she was suffering from an injury.

Saturday’s match against Maryland will be the 30th all-time and will have Clemson looking for its 11th straight victory over the Terps. The Tigers won last season’s match-up by a 6-1 margin at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center, while Maryland’s last win in the series was during the 1999 season.

Clemson and Boston College will be meeting for just the fourth time in history with all three prior matches coming since the Eagles joined the ACC for the 2006 season. The Tigers won all three of those contests for a 17-4 combined individual record against Boston College.
