April 7, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis was ranked #12 in Tuesday’s Campbell/ITA Tennis poll. The Tigers fell one spot in the computer-generated rankings even though they posted a pair of 7-0 victories last week. Clemson boasts a 16-5 overall record heading into the final weekend of the regular season and is tied for second place in the conference with an 8-1 ACC mark.

The Tigers swept both Maryland and Boston College last weekend to extend their winning streak to eight straight. They will take on fifth-ranked Duke on Friday afternoon before wrapping up the regular season against #19 North Carolina on Saturday. Both matches are on the road.

Junior Ani Mijacika leads the Clemson squad and has spent the last five weeks as the nation’s top player. Individual rankings are released every two weeks with the most recent poll from Mar. 31. Mijacika has compiled a 28-5 record for the fall and spring seasons combined and has posted the victory in each of her last eight matches.

The Tigers are one of six ACC-member teams ranked in the top 25 with the Blue Devils heading the list at #5. Miami and Georgia Tech follow with the sixth and seventh rankings, respectively. Florida State is then ranked 18th with the Tar Heels listed at #19.
