Women’s Tennis Loses to #5 Georgia, 7-1

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team dropped a 7-1 decision to #5 Georgia on Friday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. Clemson sophomore Carmina Giraldo defeated 8th-ranked Esther Knox 6-4, 6-3 at flight one singles, scoring the Tiger’s lone point in the match.

Georgia’s Marissa Catlin defeated senior Cath Galvin 6-0, 6-4 at number two singles, and #19 Lori Grey beat sophomore Anna Savitskaya 6-1, 6-2 at flight three singles. Ninety-ninth ranked Kelly Baskin defeated junior Cinny Clausen 6-3, 6-3 at number four, and #80 Anne Dguyen beat freshman Laurence Jayet 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 at flight five singles. Zoe Mellis defeated freshman Renata Brito 6-0, 6-4 at flight six singles.

In the doubles competition, the Tigers’ defaulted because of injury at flight one, and the teams did not play the flight two match. Georgia’s Mellis and Baskin defeated Galvin and Clausen 8-4 at number three doubles.

Clemson’s record moves to 1-1 with the loss. The Tigers will play host to UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.
