Women?s Tennis Garners All-Academic Team Honor; Four Individuals Recognized

The women’s tennis team earned recognition as one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic teams after compiling a 3.43 GPA during the 2013-14 season, the organization announced on Thursday. Additionally, Yana Koroleva, Romy Koelzer, Carola Pederzani and Tristen Dewar were named ITA Scholar Athletes for the year for compiling GPAs above a 3.5. The award puts a cap on one of the finest all-around seasons in program history. The squad went 22-7 overall, tied for the regular season ACC Championship with a 12-2 mark, and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16, while earning the highest GPA of any Clemson program during the spring. It is the second straight season that the program has earned the team recognition, and the second straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for both Koelzer and Koroleva. Koroleva was recently named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season, a first in Clemson history.  About the Awards: The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
