Women’s Tennis Falls to Wake Forest, 8-1

CLEMSON, SC – The Wake Forest women’s tennis team, ranked second nationally, defeated #35 Clemson 8-1 on Sunday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. The Tigers’ lone point was scored by freshman Laurence Jayet, who defeated Maren Haus 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at flight four singles.

Wake Forest freshman Bea Bielik, ranked 26th, defeated sophomore Carmina Giraldo, ranked 15th nationally, 7-5, 6-3 at flight one singles. Deacon freshman Adria Engel, ranked fifth nationally, defeated senior Cath Galvin 6-4, 6-4 at flight two, while sophomore Janet Bergman, ranked 37th nationally, beat freshman Renata Brito 6-1, 6-2 at flight three singles. Wake Forest senior Annemarie Milton took a 6-1, 6-1 win over freshman Anna Savitskaya at number five singles, and the Deacons’ Lea Miller beat junior Christina Oldock 7-5, 7-5 at number six singles.

Wake Forest swept the three doubles matches. Bielik and Bergman defeated Giraldo and Galvin 8-4 at number one doubles, and Engel and Milton defeated Brito and Jayet 9-8 at number two. Haus and Jackie Houston beat Savitskaya and junior Cinny Clausen 8-4 at number three doubles.

Clemson (9-4, 1-1 ACC) will play at North Carolina Thursday at 4 p.m.
