Women’s Tennis Falls to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va.- The Clemson women’s tennis team was defeated by 28th ranked Virginia Tech, 6-3, Saturday morning in Blacksburg, giving the Tigers a 1-5 record.

Clemson freshman Carmina Giraldo was defeated at number one singles, by Majka Sarafini, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1. At two singles, Clemson senior Kate-Maree Mair took the loss to Ines Khelifi, by a score of 7-5, 6-1. The Tigers Catherine Galvin fell at three singles to Gloria Guntinas, 6-1, 6-3. At four singles, Clemson senior Cecilia Hincapie handed Vanessa Pardo of Virginia Tech a loss by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Christina Oldock of Clemson fell to Dega Mrozek, 6-2, 6-3, in the number five spot. At number six singles, Clemson sophomore Cinny Clausen was victorious over Michele Martaus, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, the Tigers Giraldo and Mair fell to the Hokies Sarafini and Pardo, 8-4. At two doubles, Oldock and Galvin of Clemson took the loss to Guntinas and Khelifi. The pair of Hincapie and Clausen were victorious over Mrozek and Martuas at three doubles, 8-2.

Clemson (1-5) will take on Brigham Young University this Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Clemson.
