Women’s Tennis Edged by Auburn

CLEMSON, S.C. — Lucy Altman and Tara Fitzmorris defeated Stefanie Woerz and Cinny Clausen, 9-8 at number two doubles in clinching the match and leading Auburn to a 5-4 win over Clemson in an intercollegiate women’s tennis match at Clemson, SC Friday afternoon.

With the win Auburn improves to 2-2 on the year, while Clemson falls to 2-2 this season.

Auburn went ahead 4-2 after the singles matches, picking up wins at number one, four, five and six singles. Clemson won at number one doubles as Kate-Maree Mair and Etresia Kruger defeated Ali LaGrange and Summa Edwards 8-4. Clemson’s Catherine Galvin and Devrin Carr defeated Heidii Stewart and Carolyn Kozlowski 8-5 at number-three doubles 8-5 setting up the deciding match at number two doubles.

Clemson will play host to Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in the Lady Tigers’ next action.

Auburn will play at South Carolina on Sunday February 22.
