Women’s Tennis Defeats Virginia Tech, 6-3

CLEMSON, SC- The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Virginia Tech 6-3 on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Hokies fall to 3-3 overall.

Clemson sophomore Carmina Giraldo defeated Hokie junior Michelle Martaus 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles, and Tiger senior Cath Galvin defeated Virginia Tech sophomore Ines Khelifi by default at flight two singles. Virginia Tech freshman Kristen Stubbs beat Clemson rookie Anna Savitskaya 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at number three singles. At flight four singles, Tiger freshman Laurence Jayet defeated senior Antonella Pozzi 6-0, 6-0. Virginia Tech won both the number five and number six singles matches. Freshman Kristin Lanio defeated freshman Renata Brito 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 at flight five, and Bridget Bruner defeated freshman Sunnie Harmon 6-2, 6-1 at flight six.

The Tigers swept the Hokies in doubles action. Brito and Jayet defeated Stubbs and Lanio 8-0 at flight one, and Giraldo and Galvin defeated Pozzi and Danielle Faucher 8-1 in flight two. In the number three doubles match, Savitskaya and freshman Ana Stiglic beat Martaus and Bruner 8-4.

The Tigers will face Pennsylvania on Sunday at noon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
