Women’s Tennis Completes Day Two At Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Four Clemson women’s tennis singles players and two Tiger doubles teams posted victories at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday. Second-round singles action and the doubles round of 16 will begin on Saturday morning at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.

Estefania Balda, Ina Hadziselimovic, Laurianne Henry and Federica van Adrichem all won their respective opening-round singles matches in straight sets, while the team of Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc and Clemson #2-ranked tandem of Van Adrichem and Ani Mijacika advanced in doubles play.

Balda defeated Charleston’s Laura Borza, 6-2, 6-3, while Hadziselimovic posted a victory over Laura Kriett of Gardner-Webb (6-2, 6-1). Henry defeated North Carolina’s Sophie Grabinski by a 6-3, 6-3 score, and Van Adrichem won easily against Jessi Robinson of Duke, 6-2, 6-2.

Mijacika and Van Adrichem improved to 5-2 on the year with an 8-1 defeat of Furman’s Natasa Manojolovic and Jessica Preeg in the doubles round of 32. The Tiger duo is seeded #1 in the tournament and earned a bye in the first round. Hadziselimovic and Luc joined them in the Sweet 16, edging Tennessee’s team of Jennifer Meredith and Conner Vogel, 8-6.

In other singles action, Carol Salge fell to Ana Spivakovsky of Charlotte by a 7-5, 6-2 margin and Luc suffered a 6-4, 6-4 loss to East Tennessee State’s Yevgenia Stupak.

Salge and Henry then forfeited their doubles match due to an injury.

Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am on Saturday with singles action set to start at 9:45 am.
