Women’s Tennis Completes Day Two Action At Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, SC – Five Clemson women’s tennis players posted singles wins on the second day of action at the 2007 Furman Fall Classic. Ani Mijacika and Laurianne Henry advanced to the finals of the flights one and three brackets, while Ina Hadziselimovic, Samantha Eppelsheimer and Kathryn Gerber were victorious in the consolation rounds on Saturday.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday with matches starting at 9:00 am at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, SC

Mijacika rebounded from a 6-1 loss to South Carolina’s Gira Schofield in the first set to edge the Gamecock, 7-5, in the second and third frames. She advanced to the finals of the flight one bracket, where she will take on Amanda Taylor of Vanderbilt. Henry then posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over South Carolina’s Natasa Vuckovic to reach the finals at flight three.

In the flight two consolation bracket, Hadziselimovic defeated Jenny Shular of Penn State, 6-2, 6-4. Eppelsheimer won a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Wisconsin’s Erin Jobe in the consolation round at flight six, while Kathryn Gerber moved on to the flight seven consolation final with a walk-over.

Federica van Adrichem and Alexandra Luc fell in their semifinal match-ups, as Van Adrichem suffered a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 loss to Tennessee’s Zsofia Zuor at flight four and Luc dropped a three-set contest to Courtney Ulery at number five (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).

In doubles action, all three Clemson teams lost in the finals on Saturday. Mijacika and Van Adrichem were edged by South Carolina’s team of Scholfield and Zubori, 8-6, in the flight one bracket, while Newman and Bertrand of Vanderbilt defeated Carol Salge and Estefania Balda, 8-2, at flight two. Henry and Hadziselimovic then fell to Tennessee’s Alda and Schutte by an 8-5 margin at number three.
