Women’s Tennis Completes Day One at ITA Carolina Regionals

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team was in action on Thursday as they completed the first day at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, NC. The first day featured the first two rounds of doubles competition for the Tigers.

Fifth-ranked Josipa Bek and Keri Wong are the top overall doubles seed, and won their second-round match over MacFarlane and Whitehead of UNC-Greensboro, 8-2 after a first round bye. They will take on Zoe DeBruycker and Jennifer Stone of North Carolina on Friday in the round of 16.

Maria Belaya and Klara Vyskocilova wont heir first match of the day over Winthrop’s Alkema and Herrera, 9-8. The then fell in the second round to Duke’s Monica Gorney and Mary Clayton, who are ranked #9 in the nation and the fourth seed in the doubles bracket.

Laurianne Henry and Caroline Magnusson fell in their match to UNC-Greensboro’s Rogers and Wilkins, 8-5 in the Round of 32.

Friday action will include the next round of doubles, as well as the round of 64 in the singles Main Draw. All seven Tigers are in the 64-player singles field.

Bek is the top overall seed in the singles tournament, while Keri Wong is the #5 seed in the draw. Nelly Ciolkowski is a 9-16 seed. The other four Tigers will get underway as well at various times throughout the afternoon.
