Women’s Tennis Competes At Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Clemson women’s tennis team competed at the Yellow Jacket/Holiday Inn Midtown North Invitational on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta last weekend. Anna Savitskaya won Singles Flight C, defeating Laura Ozolins (Georgia Tech) 6-3, 6-3 and Bobbi Guthrie (Georgia Tech) 6-4, 7-5, before beating Charlotte Pernet of Georgia Tech 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the finals.

The doubles team of Savitskaya and Lawrence Jayet won Doubles Flight B. The team defeated Katie Dougherty and Shana McElroy of Wisconsin 8-4, then Mysti Morris and Jaime Wong of Georgia Tech 9-7. Savitskaya and Jayet beat Linda Mattsson and Belancic of Mississippi State 9-8 (6) in the championship match.

In Singles Flight B, Catherine Galvin defeated Morris of Georgia Tech 7-6 (5), 6-0 and Jessica Levin of Indiana 7-6 (5), 6-3, before losing to Carole Soubis of Mississippi State 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the semifinals. Galvin defeated Ann Poosuthasee (Indiana) in a consolation match, 6-2, 6-2.

Jayet defeated Amanda Field of Indiana 6-1, 6-1 and Erica Johnson of Iowa 6-2, 6-1, before dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Iva Puflerova of South Alabama in the semifinals of Singles Flight B. She beat Andrea Lord of Mississippi State 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in a consolation match.

The Tiger doubles team of Galvin and Carmina Giraldo defeated Karin Anderson and Frida Borjesson of Baylor 8-2 in the first round of Doubles Flight A. Martina Ondrejkova and Iva Puflerova of South Alabama defeated the Clemson doubles team 9-8(4) in the semifinals.
