Women’s Tennis Competes at Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, GA -The Clemson women’s tennis team competed at the Georgia Invitational Tournament January 22-25. Fourteen teams competed in the tournament, including four teams in the Top 25: No. 3 Georgia, No. 6 Texas, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 23 Kentucky.

Senior Cecilia Hincapie was victorious over Shannon Stafford of Kentucky 6-3, 6-4 on Friday. She dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Laura Berendt (Texas) on Saturday. Junior Catherine Galvin defeated Ana Kolar (Georgia State) 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, then lost to Kentucky’s Carolina Mayorga 6-2, 6-0 in Saturday’s action.

Sophomore Christina Oldock defeated Kiren Fernando of Boston College 6-2, 7-6(3) in the first round of action before losing to Georgia’s Christ Grey 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round, while senior Meredith Chandler dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Marissa Catlin of Georgia in the first round and was defeated by Barbara Privel (Boston College) 6-2, 6-3 in a consolation match.

Senior Kate-Maree Mair defeated Uta Dittmer of Georgia State 6-2, 6-4 on Friday. In Saturday’s second round she lost to Amelie Detriviere of Mississippi State, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1. Sophomore Cinny Clausen defeated Georgia Southern’s Brooke McNamme 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. She was defeated by Ivana Belancic (Mississippi State) 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 on Saturday.
