Women’s Soccer Upsets Virginia In OT.

CLEMSON, S.C. — Rachel Gallegos scored in the 108th minute of play to give Clemson a 1-0 win over Virginia tonight October 2, in women’s intercollegiate soccer action at Historic Riggs Field.

The win improves the Lady Tigers to 7-3-1 overall and 2-2 in the ACC. Virginia loses its first ACC match and falls to 7-3 overall (3-1, ACC).

Clemson is ranked 15th according to the NSCAA poll and 17th in the Soccer America poll. Virginia is ranked 10th and 8th respectively.

Gallegos scored her fourth goal of the season with an assist form Deliah Arrington. With just over 11 minutes to go in the second sudden death period, Arrington drove the ball down the left side of the field and crossed to Gallegos who finished into an empty net from about 2 yards out. It was Arrington’s fifth assist of the season.

Clemson will return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Davidson for a game set to start at 7:00 p.m.. The Lady Tigers will then be at home this Friday as they take on arch-rival South Carolina. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
