GREENVILLE, S.C. – The 19th ranked Clemson women’s soccer team defeated Rhode Island 2-0 Sunday afternoon in the Furman Invitational at Greenville, SC Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Clemson’s Kelly Schneider put the Lady Tigers on top at the 49:21 mark. Schneider beat several Rhode Island defenders before drilling a shot from just outside the 18-yard line.

Clemson’s lead was extended to 2-0 at the 57:56 mark when Amanda Garcia headed in a Courtney Foster cross.

Clemson improves to 5-1 on the season, while Rhode Island falls to 2-3.

“It was a dominating performance even though we like intensity in the first half,” said Clemson Head Women’s Soccer Coach Todd Bramble. “We lacked the killer instinct to put the game away earlier. We came out in the second half and picked up our effort. I am most pleased with another shutout, the third straight for us. If we keep defending like that, good things will happen to this team.”

Clemson will play Cal State-Fullerton on Friday, September 19 in the Lady Tigers’ next action. Clemson will play at San Diego on Sunday, September 21.
