Women’s Soccer Falls to Top-Ranked North Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. – Laurie Schwoy scored two goals in leading top-ranked North Carolina to a 4-2 win over Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer match at Clemson, SC Friday night.

With the win, North Carolina remains undefeated with a 5-0 record overall and a 1-0 mark in the ACC. Clemson falls to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. North Carolina is ranked first in both the Soccer America and NSCAA polls. Clemson is ranked 18th in the NSCAA poll and 19th in Soccer America.

The Tar Heels jumped to an early 3-0 lead behind goals by Cindy Parlow and two goals by Schwoy. Clemson scored midway in the first half with a goal by Beth Keller from a Sara Burkett pass.

The Tar Heels took a 4-1 advantage at the 27:21 mark as Raven McDonald scored off an assist by Rakel Karvelsson.

Clemson narrowed the lead at the 37:36 point into the game. Sheri Bueter scored from a double assist by Keller and Jenny Crawford.

The Lady Tigers will play host to Wake Forest Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. on Riggs Field in Clemson’s next match.
