Women’s Hoops Downs ACC Rival Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Natasha Anderson had 21 points and 13 rebounds as No. 17 Clemson overcame a first-half scoring slump to beat Florida State 71-67 Sunday.

The Lady Tigers (18-5, 8-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) shot only 9-of-37 in the first half and didn’t score their first field goal until 12:38 before halftime.

But Anderson, who scored 18 points in the second half, had nine of the team’s 22 offensive rebounds. Nikki Blassingame also dominated the boards with a career-high 17 rebounds, including six on offense.

Florida State (6-16, 1-12) took an early 10-1 lead on one of Jen Robinson’s three 3-pointers. Robinson led the Seminoles with 24 points, 17 in the second half.

The Lady Tigers took a 24-22 halftime lead and pulled away early in the second half. They pushed the lead to 13 on Anderson’s driving lay-up with less than five minutes remaining and hit 19 of 23 second-half free throws to withstand a late charge by the Seminoles.

Itoro Umoh scored 15 points for the Lady Tigers. April Traylor added 15 for the Seminoles, all in the second half.
