Clemson, SC – The women’s cross country team returns to action this weekend with the ECU Pirate Invitational, held at the Lake Kristi course in Greenville, NC. The meet is scheduled for 8:45 AM Saturday and will be 5000 meters in length.

Clemson is off to a solid start early in the season, with a first-place finish at the Seahawk Invitational on September 7 and a pair of fourth-place team finishes at the Gamecock Invitational and Commodore Classic.

The Lady Tigers again have one of the youngest teams in the country, as seven of the 12 student-athletes traveling this weekend are first-year freshmen. Jenna Baker, a native of Bellevue, OH, has led the team individually the last two races. She has shown a strong ability to close out races. She was fourth at the Seahawk Invitational.

Laura Laughlin has been the team’s most consistent performer through three meets. She was fourth at the season-opening Gamecock Invitational, then sixth at UNC-Wilmington and 17th at the Commodore Classic. She has the team’s top time this season at 18:11.18 in Columbia.

Stephanie Buffo, a freshman from Spartanburg, SC, competed in her first cross country meet for Clemson at Vanderbilt and responded with a 20th-place finish. She was a two-time All-State performer in cross country at Dorman High School.

Others making the trip this weekend for Clemson are Leianne Cade, Annie and Joanie Castagno, Sunday Ford, Abby Iselborn, Candice Johnson, Ashley Vaughn, and Jill Yandle.
