Women’s Basketball Falls to Furman, 76-59

The Clemson women’s basketball team lost its fourth straight game, 76-59 to Furman on Tuesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Lady Tigers are now 1-4 on the season, while the Paladins improved to 3-1 with the win. It marked the second ever win in the series history for Furman in 18 total games.

Clemson had a pair of scorers in double figures, Tasha Phillips and Reggie Maddox. The junior college transfers combined for 21 points on 9-25 shooting. Lauren Allen led the Lady Tigers with 10 rebounds. Clemson actually outrebounded the Paladins by five and have now outrebounded four of its five opponents this season.

Tasha Taylor and D’Lesha Lloyd were strong contributors off the bench offensively with seven and nine points, respectively.

For Furman, three reached double figures. Leading the way was Katie Roach with 14 on 4-6 shooting. Chrissy Phelps added 12 points and had five of the Paladins’ 13 steals.

In the first half, the Lady Tigers made a late run to get within six points at halftime. Clemson cut the deficit in half after a 16-4 run to end the first half. In the second half, Clemson got as close as 49-41 midway through. But Furman countered with a 15-4 run to put the game out of reach for the Lady Tigers.

Clemson travels to Columbia, SC on Friday for a game against in-state rival South Carolina. The Lady Tigers won 103-99 last season in an overtime thriller at Littlejohn Coliseum. Tip-off at the Carolina Center is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
