Women’s Basketball Blasts UNC-Ashville

CLEMSON, S.C. – Five players scored in doubles figures including Itoro Umoh’s 13 points as Clemson defeated UNC-Asheville 93-26 in a women’s intercollegiate basketball game at Clemson, SC Saturday night.

This was the season opener for both teams.

Besides Umoh’s 13 points, Natasha Anderson had 12, and Nikki Blassingame, Erin Batth, and Andrea Gaines all had 11 points.

Clemson finished the game hitting 35-71 from the field for a .493 figure. The Lady Tigers also outrebounded UNC-Asheville 55-23.

The Lady Tigers took a 32-9 lead with 5:27 left to go in the first half. Blassingame scored seven points in this stretch run and Clemson went on to take a 43-16 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Clemson outscored the Bulldogs 24-2 in the first seven minutes as the Lady Tigers built a 67-18 lead. Junior college transfer, Amirah Leonard hit two three-point goals in this Lady Tiger run.

Clemson will play Mississippi at Oxford, MS on Monday, November 16, in the Lady Tigers’ next action. Clemson now has a 21-3 record over the years when playing its first home game of the season.

The Lady Tigers also have a 18-6 record over the years in season-opening games.
