Thursday Report: Women’s 4×400 Relay Falls Short of Final

CLEMSON, S.C. – A late push from Marlena Wesh on the anchor leg was not enough to propel the Tiger women’s 4×400 relay to the final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Clemson compiled a time of 3:34.29 to finish 10th out of 24 teams. The trio of Olivia James, Nia Fluker and Whitney Fountain made up the first three legs of the relay. Clemson was bidding to make its first NCAA outdoor final in the event since 2001.

Wednesday Report: Fountain 12th, Lewis 14th on Day One at #NCAATF

CLEMSON, S.C. – Whitney Fountain finished 12th in the women’s long jump, the best finish among three Tigers competing on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Reggie Lewis was 14th and Tevin Hester 20th in the men’s 100 dash.

Fountain jumped 20-3 on her opening attempt, but ultimately fell an agonizing four centimeters shy of making the final. It was her first individual NCAA Championships berth. She is set to run with the women’s 4×400 relay Thursday, in the semifinals that begin approximately 9:40 p.m. ET.

Lewis posted a wind-aided time of 10.23 to take sixth in the opening semifinal Wednesday, but he was six spots shy of advancing in the 100. Hester, who suffered an injury-plagued outdoor campaign, ran 10.31 in a wind-legal semifinal.
