Volleyball Treks to Furman Tuesday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s volleyball team will travel to Greenville, SC to take on Furman in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 6:00 pm in Alley Gym. It will be the Tigers (6-0) first match away from Jervey Gym, while it will go down as the home opener for the Paladins (7-1), who have won six in a row. Livestats and a web video broadcast are available for the match. The Tigers are 36-1 all-time against the Paladins, with the loss coming in 2007. The Tigers have not played a regular-season match in Alley Gym since the 2002 season. They did, however, play a spring scrimmage there in April of this year, taking a 3-1 decision. It renews the head-to-head matchup between head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover and her former setter Michelle (Thieke) Young, who played at Clemson from 1994-1997. Young still ranks third in Clemson history with 4,305 career set assists. Hoover, who tallied her 400th win at Clemson last weekend, will have a shot at No. 500 for her career this week, as she sits on 497 entering Tuesday. The Tigers also have a three-match slate this weekend, starting with South Carolina on Friday in Columbia, and Winthrop and UAB on Saturday as part of the Carolina Clash. Clemson enters the match hitting .303 as a team, while holding opponents to a .129 mark. The Tigers have served aggressively, and are averaging a league-best 2.16 aces per set, led by 13 from Kristin Faust and nine apiece from Serenat Yaz and Hannah Brenner. Brenner is averaging 11.05 assists per set as she closes in on 2,000 for her career. Mo Simmons earned tournament MVP honors for her play last weekend, and is leading the Tigers at 3.68 kills per set. Sandra Adeleye is not far behind at 3.32, and she is also hitting .376. Natalie Patzin was named to the Clemson Classic All-Tournament Team and has 1,058 digs in her career and a 4.58 per set average this year.
