Volleyball to Hold Orange and White Scrimmage Friday

CLEMSON – The Clemson volleyball team will play their annual intrasquad Orange and White Scrimmage on Friday at 5:00 pm in Jervey Gym. All home regular season events this season are free for all to attend. The team will play three sets – two to 25 points, and one to 15, simulating a regular-season fifth-set.  It will be fans’ first chance to get to know and watch nine newcomers, along with the seven returners. Clemson opens its regular season on Friday, Aug. 30 in Cincinnati, OH in a tournament at Xavier.  The program graduated four starters from 2012, when the team went 21-10 overall and 12-8 in league play. Back are seniors Mo Simmons and Hannah Brenner, along with junior Kristin Faust. Juniors Karis Watson and Kamryn Sherman have also been solid contributors in each of their first two years.  There are newcomers at nearly every position, starting with junior transfers Beta Dumancic (Jefferson College (MO)) and Niki Collier (Missouri), who each enrolled in January and participated in spring practice.  The incoming freshman class includes Leah Perri (MH, Richland, MI), Megan Giardina (S, Pickerington, OH), Cayley Balser (OH, Grafton, OH), Milica Stamenic (DS, Belgrade, Serbia), Irem Bayramoglu (OH, Istanbul, Turkey), and Sydney Moseley (OH, Simpsonville, SC). Additionally, Alex Lynch (OH/RS, Alameda, CA), a transfer from Tennessee, will play as a redshirt freshman.  Simmons and Faust represent two of Clemson’s top-three scorers from a season ago. Simmons ranked 7th in the ACC at 3.17 kills per set, while Faust averaged 2.36 per set. Brenner ranked 5th in the ACC with a 10.04 assists per set average, and she enters 2013 sixth in Clemson history with 2,798 career helpers.
